Buxus Feed 1 kg pouch is a nutrient-rich plant food designed specifically for buxus (box) plants. This balanced feed delivers the key elements your buxus needs to maintain vibrant green colour, strong growth and overall plant health throughout the growing season. Regular feeding helps support new shoot development, encourages dense, compact foliage and enhances the natural beauty of hedges, topiary and standalone specimens.

The easy-to-apply granules can be worked lightly into the soil around the base of the plant or applied to containers for consistent nutrient release. Suitable for use in both gardens and pots, this feed supports buxus at all stages of growth and helps improve resilience to stress and environmental challenges.

With regular application according to packaging directions, Buxus Feed helps ensure your box plants remain healthy, attractive and full of life year after year.

Note: One small gloved handful is approximately 30 g (1 oz).

Planting Buxus in Permanent Positions

Buxus is best planted in autumn or spring. Prepare the ground by cultivating it to a full spade’s depth to ensure good root establishment.

For individual plants in 15–20 cm (6–8 inch) containers or bare-rooted stock, apply 60 g (2 oz) of Buxus Feed. Sprinkle part of the feed into the base of the planting hole and lightly fork it in. Mix the remaining feed with the soil used to backfill the hole, then position and firm in the plant.

For hedge planting, apply 60–120 g of Buxus Feed per linear metre of planting trench, distributing it evenly along the base and mixing lightly into the soil.

For larger container plants over 20 cm (8 inches), apply 60 g to the bottom of the planting hole and lightly fork it in, then mix a further 60 g into the backfill soil before firming in the plant.

Top Dressing

Buxus hedges planted in the ground benefit from regular top dressing. Apply the feed evenly to the soil surface, ideally when the soil is moist. For container-grown plants, apply Buxus Feed at a rate of one teaspoon per 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) of pot diameter, working it gently into the soil surface where possible.

In the spring following planting, apply 60 g (2 oz) evenly beneath the branches of each shrub. Repeat this application at the end of June or early July. For best results, apply during dry conditions, lightly hoe into the soil and water thoroughly after application.

Buxus Feed can also be used safely as a top dressing for other trees, shrubs and conifers, but it is not suitable for ericaceous plants.

For established plants, apply in early spring (March) as follows:

Plants up to 60 cm (2 ft): 60 g

Plants 90–120 cm (3–4 ft): 120 g

Standard trees: 180 g

Repeat the application at the end of June or early July for continued healthy growth.
